A man of O'Neill’s capabilities would have either found the
planted C4 charges within a matter of days or have discovered the Al Qaeda
moles in the WTC security and / or maintenance departments. Either way, the jig was up for Al
Qaeda.
Knowing O'Neill would ruin their carefully-laid plan, they
had to strike quickly. Therefore, it
was the simple act of the WTC hiring of John O'Neill to head up their security
department that set 9-11 as the day for the attack. This also explains Usama bin Laden’s amazement with success of
the attack. It exceeded his wildest
expectations, because the mission succeeded as originally planned and he was
also able to free himself of America’s top terrorist hunter.
Not only were there jubilant celebrations in Afghanistan,
but also in the Palestinian Authority over the 9-11 attack. There were plenty of hugs and smiles in
Tehran, Iran amongst the twisted men who supplied Al Qaeda with the technology
and explosives it needed to carry off the terror attack of the century.
The Enemy of My Enemy
If there is one thing mainstream America has learned with
the invasion of Iraq is the enmity between Sunni and Shiah Muslims is just as
real as the poisonous rancor between divided Irish Catholics and Protestants.
So how does a Sunni Islamic extremist like Usama bin Laden
get the support of a Shiah Islamic extremist like Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the
leader of Iran? Simple. As the old Arab proverb goes, “The enemy of
my enemy is my friend," and while the two share dissimilar world views,
they share the same enemies, which as former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu so aptly put it, are “The ‘Great Satan,’ America and its ‘Lesser
Satan,’ Israel.”
Once America and Israel have been destroyed, the Sunni and
Shiah extremists will be then be in a position to fight over how the world is
to be turned one big happy Muslim Caliph. Until then, job #1 is the
destruction of America and Israel and the worthy axiom, "If at first you
don't succeed, try, try again.”
With this in mind, the logical conclusion of the first
attack on World Trade Center in February 1993, was that while it resulted
killing six people, and displacing business in the complex for six months, it
turned out to be cheap, amateurish bungle.
The terrorists used a low-tech truck bomb with a 1,500-pound urea-nitrate bomb
and a simple timer. The goal was to
topple one tower into another, which never happened. For added effect, they placed containers of cyanide gas in the
truck to increase the collateral human damage. However the initial blast consumed the cyanide gas. Worse yet, was the way that the American
government swept up the perpetrators and prosecuted them.
In October 2000, Usama bin Laden experienced a similar
disappointment with the attack on the USS Cole (DDG-67) in Port Aden on the
Arabian Peninsula. Loaded with high
explosives, the small inflatable boat used by the suicide bombers crippled the
ship, killing 17 Americans and injuring
more than 36, 5 seriously.
As with the
1993 WTC attack, the USA captured the mastermind thanks to John O'Neill’s
aggressive investigation. The goal was
to sink to the ship with a catastrophic loss of life and to get away with it. In this regard, the plan failed.
Therefore, the next WTC attack would need more sophisticated
planning, perpetrators, money and technology. Long before the attack on the USS Cole, Usama bin Laden already had planning and perpetrators in place, as well
as the funds needed from sympathetic Wahabbist Saudi princes.

Cash in hand, it was time to go shopping for
new-and-improved terror toys, and relying upon his extensive knowledge of
construction techniques, Usama bin Laden knew he needed a special formulation
of C4. One that would burn – not
detonate, plus small, reliable guidance systems. Equally important, he needed a technology partner who could
protect his need for absolute anonymity. Enter Iran. A sympathetic
Islamist state with no binding ties to the USA and possessing the right
targeting and explosives technology and manufacturing capabilities for the job.
 How good is Iranian bomb
technology? Just count the American
dead returning from Iraq, blown to bits by increasingly sophisticated Iranian
IEDs. A country that is making war on
America in every way it can, short of an unwinnable outright
confrontation. No doubt, Usama bin
Laden’s cash offer was good, and Iranians most likely used the money to sweeten
their deal with Russians for a freer hand in building their nuclear reactor and
reprocessing facilities.
After the attack on 9-11, the Iranian Mullahs must have
relished the attack with great self-righteous smugness because Allah the Most
Compassionate and the Most Merciful had given the infidels a solid trouncing
through them, and best of all, there would be no smoking gun to link them to
the attack.
This is critical, because when it comes to Western
Democracies, the smoking gun test rules. In general, conservative hawks allow for guns that smoke
circumstantially, whereas centrists prefer the smoking gun itself. On the other hand, liberal doves not only
insist on a smoking gun; they will only concede its existence once they (and
only they) pry it loose from the cold, dead hand of a socially acceptable perpetrator.
Hence, the swing-smoking-gun, swing-vote effect. Conservative hawks can be expected to vote
first and talk later, and the centrists will usually vote along with them if
the liberal doves are facing re-election. If not, the whole thing turns into an un-American squeaker, and the news
channels enjoy an embarrassment of advertising revenues.
In the midst of all this national kibitzing, Usama bin Laden
and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei are free to relish an incredibly successful attack
on America with Saudi money and Iranian technology, but thanks to the
Palestinians, their savory days of terror were not to last. Or as Dubya would likely say, “Fellas, it’s
time to come to Jesus.”
The Worm Turns
It is impossible to imagine that, in the days immediately
following 9-11, our government would not have searched for C4 blast residue and
equally impossible to imagine that they likewise failed isolate a C4 chemical
fingerprint. Assuming they did look and
they did isolate a chemical fingerprint, the next problem would have been
tracing it back to a known manufacturer, given that it was likely formulated
for the 9-11 attack. Granted, there
would be strong indicators as to the origins of the raw material source, but
these would be inconclusive in and of themselves.
 Enter the Palestinians and a real smoking gun called the
'Karine-A.'
Sailed by a Fatah captain, the "Karine A" started
its last run from the Jordanian port of Aqaba just 13 days after the 9-11
attack to an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf, where it was loaded with over
70-80 tons of weapons and munitions worth $15 million, purchased by Palestinian
Authority from Iran's "Export Committee of the Islamic Revolution.” The payment was delivered via Lebanon
through Hezbollah middlemen.
The plan was to sail the “Karine A” through the Suez Canal
to the Mediterranean and to make port in Alexandria, Egypt. From there, the cargo would be reloaded onto
smaller craft, and smuggled into Gaza.
The Israelis had been following the ship with a great deal
intelligence activity under a secret mission code-named Operation Milk and
Honey ('khalav u-dvash'). On January 2,
2002, a squadron of ‘Dvora’ patrol craft was ordered to intercept the ‘Karine
A’ in international waters on the Red Sea, between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The ship was seized in approximately 8
minutes without a shot being fired.
Afterwards, the ship sailed to the Eilat naval base where
the cargo was put on display for the world. While there were plenty of Egyptian, Russian and Chinese weapons on
board, the cargo also include 62 Iranian 'Arash' missiles, and more than 4,850
lbs. of C4 and TNT bricks. Like the
Arash missiles, the C4 and TNT were made in Iran, and accompanied by a large
quantity of electric and mechanical fuse mechanisms of various types.
Assuming that Iranian manufacturers have the same problem
with production overruns as do the manufacturers in every other nation in the
world, it is logical to assume that there was a certain amount of C4 materials
left over from the 9-11 special order used to produce the C4 for the Palestinians. Once these bricks of Iranian C4 were in the
hands of the Israelis as opposed to being buried in PA tunnels, it would also
be a true windfall for America’s intelligence agencies, who could then obtain
fresh Iranian C4 chemical fingerprints from the Mossad.
Up to this point, President Bush no doubt suspected the
Iranians of being complicit in the 9-11 attack, but now he had proof. Not that he’d share it with anyone and be
forced to telegraph and thereby mitigate his intended punch. That being a regime change in Iran.
Hard to buy. Let’s
look at a map of Iran and what has happened since the capture of the “Karine A”
in January 2, 2002.
Axis of Terror
Who could forget the shock and awe President Bush’s January
29, 2002 "axis of terror" State of the Union address caused when he
said:
 "Our second goal is to prevent regimes that
sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons
of mass destruction.” "Iran
aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few
repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom."
Let’s do a quick review. The “Karine A” sailed for Iran to pick up Iranian C4, plus a lot of
other terror toys, just 13 days after the 9-11 attack. Then, just 27 days after the capture of the
“Karine A” by the Israelis, Bush drops his Axis of Terror bombshell during his
State of the Union speech.
