Sony's 2012 Delivers a Powerful Human Warning

Since Sony's blockbuster film 2012 debuted last Friday it is setting box office records. Arguably it is the biggest disaster saga to hit the big screen since Titanic and with good reason, despite cynical attacks by NASA and film critics alike. It will be a long-lived film, because it possesses a powerful viral message that will take root as the entertainment buzz fades away.

As for Yowusa.com, we're seeing huge traffic increases to our site since the film came out on the 13th. Our server logs indicate over over 5,000 page views per day to this site.

Likewise, our Yowbooks YouTube channel is now receiving over 24,000 views a day since Sony released 2012 on the 13th and interest is growing and positive.

For example, we posted a a full length version of our Planet X Special Report No. 1 - Where is Planet X? late on the 13th and as of publication, and it has received over 3,700 views as well as more than 42, 5-star ratings.

Counter Programming Against 2012

Despite this growth in interest, we're seeing a huge counter force effort by NASA and many others to quell interest through patronizing and dismissive attacks.  Their message is familiar. Anyone who dares consider this is a lunatic and it's best to wait for the those who know better to speak with authority on the matter.

The caustic and aggressive arrogance of Dr. Morrison at NASA and others is really out of step with their former stances. As I like to say, "hate always lashes out." So what do they hate about 2012? That's the real question.

To help answer that questions I went back to the theater yesterday to watched 2012 again, having first seen it on Sunday.  This time I was not distracted by the CGI graphics, which are indeed stunning. This time, I was looking for the subtext message and it was there like a case of the measles.  However, at first pass you wouldn't know it because 2012 feeds it out in small bits, and here is the gist of it. Taken altogether, it is a complete series of embedded viral messages to wit:

• Ruling elites and the wealthy proclaim that they are doing what they do to insure the survival of the species. It is a false claim of nobility.
  
  
• What they do is secretive, so they are not forced to reveal anything until their personal safety is absolutely guaranteed.
  
  
• Those without government resources and the power of money will never learn an impending cataclysm until they are already dying.
  
  
• Those who act out of sense of humanity attempt to reveal the plans and preparations of the elites, ostensibly for the survival of the species, are branded as "traitors to humanity" and dealt with summarily.
  
  
• Governments view their own survival as the primary goal. The survival of citizens is secondary.
  
  
• When elites use the term "humanity" they are referring to themselves. Those whom they abandon are not included in the definition. Even those who work to ensure their survival and their power, until they are morally confronted with their cruelty.

No doubt that are even more of these viral messages, but for me, the most poignant line of dialog in the whole movies was not "people have the right to fight for their lives." While that message certainly defines what Yowusa.com is all about, it's not the most important line in 2012.

The really important line in the movie is "We are all children of the Earth."  It is spoken on behalf of those the elites who choose not to abandon others and their more humanistic response to a global crisis.

It speaks to the human decency and nobility that comes naturally to those that the elites would accuse of becoming an anarchist mob, were they to know the truth.

You Must See This Film At Least Twice

When you see the movie the second time, the CGI action sequences are less eye catching. You know, the old been there and one that syndrome. However, this is when the more powerful human viral messages really starts to leap out at you. 

Ergo, while this film may appear to be CGI entertainment cliche at one level, as people watch it multiple times, the deeper human angle will start to resonate.  This is what is troubling angry men like Dr. David Morrison of NASA and why they are working so hard to humiliate people into ignoring the human message of 2012.

Now, it makes sense to me, as the Hollywood science of the film is, in some respects, laughable. For example, they show blue skies within weeks of a Yellowstone supervolcano eruption.  Years is closer to the truth, but then again, Yellowstone has been on a level red activity alert since 2003. 

As to the Neutrino causality angle we see in 2012, it is pure Hollywood science. However, this far-fetched neutrino theory did not show up on their IHC companion promotion site until well after Sony announced that the film would debut in Nov, as opposed to the original June date. So is there an inside story here? Could be.

An Inside Story?

When we finished writing Planet X Forecast and 2012 Survival Guide in 2007, one of the biggest publishers in Japan snatched up the Japanese language version back in December of that year and licensed a run of 8,000 books.

Our licensees in Japan released their book this month along with the debut of the movie and it features a foreword written by Echan Deravy in Japanese.

When we licensed the book to them, we suspected they had inside knowledge that Planet X was going to be mentioned in Sony's 2012 film.  Given that 2012 opened with views of the solar system when the whole premise is purely solar, we could have been on the money.

What both co-founder Jacco van der Worp noticed and I observed, is that that film was heavily edited at the beginning, as they skipped through the 2009-2012 years in a jerky and uneven manner.  As though there have been a major re-sequencing.  No doubt the Planet X footage hitting the cutting room floor and now the neutrino lab in India scene opens before the movie title. An obvious patch.

Why 2012 Has Legs

All that being said, the Hollywood science makes the scenarios seem to be so implausible that people can actually dismiss the real concerns and enjoy the film as entertainment.  That is a good thing.

In 1998 there were 2 disaster films.  Deep Impact, which was very realistic and well done.  Then, Armageddon with Bruce Willis.  Deep Impact is in the deep freeze, and Armageddon is on Cable most every day. 

This is why 2012 will have long legs. While it appears to be a cliche disaster movie at one level, at a deeper level, it drives home a very heavy topic for the Lunch Box Joes of the world.  Survival. 

It is going to be interesting to see how this film goes, in terms of its intended viral ability at the awareness level.  Go see it, if you have already done so, to be entertained, and you surely will. Then go again for the viral message if you believe yourself to be the captain of your own ship.
