Why the Contact? Why Now?
One of the things that has amazed me about much of the crop circle analysis presently out there is the tendency to interpret it in the context of known
symbology such as the Celtic and Masonic. For me, this has always been a ‘chicken or the egg’ issue because historical records show that crop circles
have appeared in early times as well. Who is not to say that our own ancient symbols are nothing more than pictograms of previous formations in history.
Rather than debate all this in terms of mystical symbology, I prefer to see crop circle formations as coded messages sent by a multidisciplinary
society. Think of it. We have artists, mathematicians, engineers, and so forth. So would it not stand to reason that we too would send multidisciplinary
messages to other worlds? If you want to say no, then hold on before you make a fool of yourself.

Before launching the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes in 1977, NASA
commissioned Carl Sagan of Cornell University to chair a committee for the development of what would later be called the “Golden Record,” a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds
and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. When we launched the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes into space, we chose to communicate a story of our own world to
extraterrestrials wherever they may be found.
Not only was Carl Sagan at the crux of that important outreach event, but he also helped shape the Arecibo Interstellar Message that was transmitted at
2380 MHz, toward the globular cluster M13, 25 kLY distant on November 16, 1974.
This brings me to the absurdity of the question, “well why are they trying to talk to us?” Folks, we’re the ones who started this particular conversation – no them!
Perhaps the right question would be, “so why have they chosen to respond to us at this time?” Let us hope the motivation is not the same one that
compels us to rush to a neighbor’s home (even though we usually prefer to avoid contact with them) with garden hose in hand, to help quell the flames we now see leaping up from their roof -- from afar.
Carl, you were so far ahead of your time!
