Cries of NaturePart 1 — The Signs of Global Warming ContinuedAcross the US 82 large wildfires, the majority of which cover over 100 acres, have been burning on more than 1.6 million acres in 11 states:
A firefighter recently died from injuries suffered on August 20 2000 while fighting fires in a pine plantation. The preliminary fatality record for the year in the US currently stands at eight firefighters. Solar FlaresAfter traveling 93 million miles, the Suns energy hits the upper atmosphere of the Earth. A third of the energy is reflected back into space, while the remaining two thirds warm the planet and drive the weather engine. Major sunspot activity and the subsequent solar flares send electromagnetically charged particles with the solar winds that strike the Earth.
On July 14 2000, a solar flare erupted with over four times the intensity of any other flare detected since the launch of SOHO in 1995 and ACE in 1997. A full-halo coronal mass ejection erupted on 9 August 2000 followed by a partial halo eruption on 10 August 2000. This activity appears to have been caused by sunspot group 9115. The resulting northern lights were spotted as far south as Los Angeles, CA (latitude 35 degrees). Northern lights are usually confined to high latitudes (> 50 degrees). The auroras were so intense that they shined through the competing glow of Southern California's urban lights. James Westlake, a professor of astronomy at the Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs said, "It was a surprise. Bright red, green and blue curtains and fountains of light seemed to pour out of the top of Hahn's Peak." Carbon DioxideIn early August, the Environmental Protection Agency released a report saying that carbon dioxide concentrations over the past ten years has decreased 36 percent. This is probably a result of the ban on CFCs and other ozone-destroying chemicals that has been in effect since 1996. Australia has generally been known as an environmental leader, but their opposition of limits to greenhouse gas emissions from the Kyoto negotiations has changed that world view dramatically. Australia does not want to help because they have a $6.5 billion coal export industry. Steve Wofsy of Harvard University is co-chair of the Carbon and Climate Working Group of the US Global Change Research Program in Washington. He and many others are of the belief that something is missing from scientists understanding of the way carbon is stored on land. The estimated 200 - 300 million tons of carbon stored in trees each year is apparently too small by a factor of two or three. Wofsy recently said, "We don't really have the basic science to understand the impacts [of CO2] and long-term effects." Chris Field of the Science Steering Panel of the US Carbon Cycle Research Program also agrees. However, new research conducted by NASA, may be able to end the debate on the effects of carbon dioxide. WildlifeJennifer Morgan, director of the World Wide Fund for Natures climate change campaign said recently, "GW means a horrifying future for nature. World leaders must give top priority to reducing levels of carbon pollution." The WWF report says many plant and animal species will not be able to keep up with the constant and rapid modifications of their habitats. Those species that do so successfully are likely to be weeds and pests that are already able to move and adapt much faster than most other species. Many scientists believe that climate change was responsible for the extinction of the saber-tooth tiger and the woolly mammoth. Birds such as the Great Tit in Scotland and the Mexican Jay in Arizona have been discovered to be breeding earlier in the year. In Europe, butterflies are shifting their ranges to the north. A long term study from the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab has shown that yellow-bellied marmots in Colorado are emerging 38 days earlier from their hibernation than they did 23 years ago. However, chipmunks in central Colorado are sleeping in up to 27 days longer than they did 26 years ago. Such bizarre alterations in the hibernation timetables of these creatures seem to be related to the local climate changes. However, the divergent behavior between species is confusing ecologists. Polar IceThe World Meteorological Organization says the biggest hole in the ozone layer was recorded in 1998, when it covered 4.63 million square miles. In 1999, it had shrunk to 3.86 million square miles. It appears that the damage is already done, and it will be decades before nature is able to fix the hole to any noticeable extent.

Planet X Special ReportPlanet X Special Report No. 1: Where is Planet X?
Our view is that this topic should never be introduced to others, until they demonstrate a geniune interest. Nonetheless, those with a genuine interest in the topic will feel a natural urge to share their concerns about a possible threat to themselves and those close to them. Consequently, the most common questions they ask are, "where is Planet X, and what is the most likely worst case scenario?" GO

Taken altogether, it is a bizarre twist on the Biblical story of Noah and the Flood — and with strikingly similar themes. For those new to the topic of 2012, the film is great entertainment, but it also drives home an ancient failing of humanity. That the common folk are often the last to know, whether by their own choices or those made for them by wealthy and powerful elites. Ergo, many will never ask, "where will I be in 2012?" They'll just have enough time to ask, "My God, what's happening?" GO
